I bought 4 hardcover pbooks last week and 7 in March, including the 2-volume biography of Abraham Lincoln by Michael Burlingame. This month, so far, I have bought 8 ebooks; in March I bought 3.

Whether I buy a pbook or an ebook is determnined by whether I want a permanent copy of a book in my library, in which case I buy a hardcover copy, or if I consider the book a read-it-once-then-delete-it book, in which case I buy an ebook. On occasion I will buy both the hardcover and ebook versions of a book -- one for my library and the other so I can read it while traveling.

I do not consider one form a replacement for the other; rather, I think of them as complementary as each fulfilling a need for me.
