Hi thanks for the detailed analysis. So, I have tried to hook up to my KOBO app. using usb cord to my ma but the mini doesnt show up at all. When I remove the micro SD card and use an adapter, the Card shows up on my mac desktop. The device, using the cord, never shows up on the desktop. maybe a cord, but I think this cord worked the last time the device worked... Can I tell the firmware version by looking at the files on the sd card?

My wife had trouble with it a few years ago because some books would disappear, or only work for a while and then not, and spent countless hours trying to figure it out and talk to tech support but gave up. I'm trying to resurrect it for her (look Im a hero!)

So when I first launched it a few days ago, I was asked to log into my wifi network, and then after that it would just go through the cycle of the smiley face black dots going across, checking for known networks, checking for new updates, and saying up to date, then "loading" and then the spinning clock? a bunch of slashes going around in a circle. I thought maybe the sd card was shot...
