It's used both ways. The Omnibus "Dragonriders of Pern" contains the original trilogy. "The Harper Hall Trilogy" refers to those three books (Dragonsinger, Dragonsong and Dragon Drums). Amazon lists them as the "Pern series". FantasticFiction lists them as the Dragonriders of Pern series.

Personally, I'll keep calling them the Pern books, and the first three are the Dragonriders of Pern trilogy.
