Another important thing I would like is the ability to read an article online on my desktop and send it to my e-reader (I used to be able to do this via a kindle chrome addon and found it very useful)

With the latest Kindle firmware, it is much easier to ignore the Store. The link is no longer in the menu when reading a book, and it’s just a tiny shopping cart icon when viewing Library.
