As suggested by NiLuJe you can try ssh -v root@192.168.15.244 to see error messages.
If that doesn't work, try temporarily disabling other network connections.
Thank you, I will try this as soon as I have access to my friend's computer again! (The Kindle doesn't show up as a network on my laptop for some reason). I will let you know what happens, thanks again.
