I want to downgrade to 4.30.18338 (the previous public release), but I want to still be able to use Wi-Fi so that my reading position will sync between my Libra 2 and my Clara HD; so that I can download new purchases from the Kobo store; and so that I can download new Pocket articles -- but I don't want my Kobo to either update back to 4.31.19086 on its own, or force me to do an update.
Any suggestions of how I can accomplish that? Many thanks!

Unfortunately, I don't believe so. Even if you patch out the forced upgrades, I don't think that Kobo let you sync on the older firmware.
