They see both our main and guest network first, and after about 20 seconds, 8 other access points in the neighborhood (FiOS and Spectrum). But connecting fails.

No change to password, haven't moved the router or done anything else to it. I've been Googling issues with 2.4Ghz devices connecting to our G3100 router going back months, but don't know what would have triggered this now.

I know it was connecting fine in late January, which I believe was the last time I synced a library ebook. None of the Kindle First Reads caught my eye this month and I haven't bought anything lately - trying to read through my Amazon and Calibre libraries this year on my eInk devices.
