This is CERTAINLY deliberate on Amazon's part to force authors to sell only through Amazon, or at least on Amazon in addition to anywhere else. This is also CERTAINLY deliberate to force readers to buy only on Amazon and not even be able to buy an epub elsewhere and convert it to mobi themselves, and to prevent sideloading anything and have it actually display a nice cover instead of a <BLANK> cover that hammers readers about their lack of sufficient monerary offerings to the Amazon gods.
