Definitely not a "cosy"! Rather detailed, and with some dwelling on people's reactions to the crime. But overall, a good police/medical examiner procedural murder mystery.

Next up: The Empty Throne by Bernard Cornwell. The eighth in his Last Kingdom series set in and after the time of King Alfred.
