I like the concentrate on a specific author and read their stuff chronologically and by series order when possible.
Currently I'm reading every last bit of Heinlein I haven't read before. Just some shorts and a couple of novels left. After that I'm not sure what to tackle next: Gaiman? Pratchett? Maybe the DF Jones Colossus series; those should be a quick read.
