I thought that this should work but I have to admit that the utf-8 character encoding is not tested so much. I checked the code now and it seems that utf-8 is not supported. What you can try is in MobiHeader.pm to change the CODEPAGE value from 1252 to 65001.

I think the converter in Caibre have better support for utf-8 so you might want to try this instead. You can also run mobigen either using the Linux version or running the Windows version using Wine.
