I've no idea what the contractual problems were with Baen. A shame they couldn't come to an agreement.

Hopefully something will get worked out eventually, whether with Baen or with another publisher.

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately, it seems unlikely a 9th book will ever be written. That's too bad, because I was curious about it, but I don't know if I want start something that won't have a resolution...
