First of all, you don't know where you're at. You need to determine how your device is presenting. You can use the venerable UsbView.exe (Windows) and see what the USB is presenting as EDL bulk load or EDL diag or who knows what. In Linux, lsusb -v will tell you too.

Moreover, what do you get when you boot normally? Did you lose (or never have) ADB?

Normally a fastboot boot shouldn't kill anything.

(Me, I've never figured out EDL cables. I'm not sure if it needs Vbus or you have to time it right or whatever. I just use EDL test points.)
