First Test by Tamora Pierce Her first in the Protector of the Small series.
This has an engaging feel to it. The various characters are lively and relatable. However, I felt there needs to be more depth to the overall story telling. I didn't feel the seriousness of the situation or the chauvinism. Perhaps, because the book is only about 150 pages there was missing development. The ending battle scene was glossed over too quickly and cleanly. The author may have purposely done this so as not to disturb young readers. I will continue with series. Too much lacking to rate higher than a C [3 stars].
