Thank you for your answer. I know that Amazon does not restore Kindles to previous versions (I tried unsuccessfully to get them to do this). And thanks for this suggestion about Paperwhite.
I would be looking for Kindle Basic or DX. Does anyone know if there is a build of Kindle Basic or DX for which support stopped a long time ago and which would accordingly still have older firmware versions installed? Or a build of Kindle Basic or DX that does not have wifi capability?
