I'm not sure how much the processor would need to be "kept running". My understanding is that during reading, the page is rendered and displayed, but then goes into a lower powered state, waiting for an input.
So in theory, waking once a minute wouldn't need to have the processor " kept running".
FWIW, this not an dndorsemdnt for or against the feature, and I may not know what I am talking about.
