It should be fine for you to test (last stable or any nightly). If you find an issue other than high battery comsumption please open a ticket in https://github.com/koreader/koreader/issues
The battery issue is mostly non fixable. IIRC kobo/nickel workarounds it by sleeping all cpu cores between page turns. Maybe NiLuJe attempts to do the same in KOReader (we already do that in Pocketbooks) but that's not being worked on at the moment.
