Perhaps you could explain why epub is a better format than kepub to archive ebooks?

Given the major difference is the collection of spans (<span class="koboSpan" id="kobo.9.4"> as an example) for which koboSpan is not defined in the stylesheets making it effective a null operation. The ModifyEpub plugin for calibre will happily strip those out in a few seconds so I really don't see much difference in using either as your archive format.
