British author H de Vere Stacpoole (1863-1951) is best remembered for his novel "The Blue Lagoon", but was a prolific novelist and short story writer. For a number of years he was a ship's doctor for a shipping line which serviced the south seas trade, where many of his stories are set; later he went into general practice in the UK.
