I converted the above EPUB to old MOBI using calibre and sideloaded it to my Kindle Oasis. All images displayed properly.
Since the problem is with MOBI files perhaps you could post a MOBI you have created that exhibits the problem for you.
PS: Have you tried restarting your Kindle. Sometimes that can clear up odd problems.
