Yeah, I would like if the most recently opened book (the one on the far left) were made slightly larger than the rest of the book on the top row.

The shortcut in the menu bar is newer than the home screen. But yeah, having two shortcuts seems redundant. On the other hand, of the two, the tile on the home screen seems to be the more user friendly.
The two ad links at the bottom can be removed from the home screen and all the covers can be made larger, so you don't have a bunch of empty space.
