Does anyone have any experience with the soft TPU type covers? I don’t think I’ll be using it for reading, just for quick transport, do they stink? Do they stretch out of shape?

Third party TPU covers are fine. I use one on my forma. It doesn't stink and is quite easy to put ereader in or take out. After more than two years of heavy use, it remains in good shape apart from some minor signs of wear on the edge.
