Also note that you will have to connect your Kobo twice. The first time you can send the epub and it will be imported on disconnect which will add the book to the database. The second time the epub's metadata will be updated in the database. Just make sure that in calibre's Preferences => Sending books to devices, that Metadata management is set to Automatic Management.
