I am sideloading most of my books, and most of them via direct file copy from PC to Kobo. The book in the screenshot below was probably sent via Calibre, but I do not see any difference between it and those I simply copied as a file

What setting are you talking about? I do see the font shrink as I move the slider, but even at the smallest setting it is too large. BTW, the middle screenshot is a Pocket Article. Are those treated as kepub too?
