Let me recommend that you visit a good camera shop and take a look at the 'Op-tec' brand of neoprene camera straps. (Actually, there are several manufacturers these days.) The better ones are covered with soft knitted cotton while the neoprene takes up all the 'bounce' of the weight of the reader/camera, etc. I carry a very heavy camera with large lenses and without this sort of strap I'd be neckless... In fact, I even use their heavy duty strap as a pack strap on a duffel bag. It's like having a shock absorber built into your weight.
