It's another instance of my lack of affinity with symbolic representations.
The local supermarket has stuck 'Tap Here" labels on their card readers (just above above the screen), as has the pharmacy (on the left side) - never have a problem with those.

I wish my stores would put those stickers on.
Edited to add that I've never seen a machine like the one in your picture.
