I used to read 100% kepubs before starting to use KOReader and switching to all epubs, but this is still the way I like my "page" numbers to show. I actually call them "clicks" now, and a recent experience of reading an ebook that had "real" page numbers was distracting for the very reason you cite - I'd get to "page" X and find I was STILL on it several clicks later.
