I noticed the same thing, and was about to post it in the Kobo thread. OTOH, I did finally go for the Kobo credit card, which gives about the same amount off. (3% if I remember correctly ???).
My sadness is that, so far at least, I'm not seeing the discounted Kobo gift cards at Walmart, as have happened the last couple of years.
I keep checking every couple of days, but no luck so far, and it's getting pretty close to Dec 25.
