I have no ideas about the screen freeze, apart from the experience I’ve had a number of times following an update, where it triggers re-indexing and the Kindle can become unresponsive. My PW5 has only a handful of books on it at the moment and so when it updated, I didn’t experience any performance degradation. Or maybe it is just FAST!
I am thinking, and could be completely wrong, that some of the brand new devices are touch sensitive at first but it slows down after some use. This may be completely wrong thinking on my part, so take it with a grain of salt. All I know is after I kept using it, it fixed and slightly slowed down and resolved itself

I hate returning devices unless I absolutely have to, so it could have also just been a glitchy device that an update fixed.
