My main requirements are a good clear screen and dark, high contrast fonts. The Nooks (GlowLight Plus, 6" and GL3) meet those requirements. My only issue with the Nook is the lack of one font size choice in the "normal" range. If I ever get that I'll be very happy with the GL3.

Another thing that was very important to me was built-in ADE (PocketBooks, Tolinos) but with the new DeASCM plugin for Calibre that's not as important to me. (I still like the feature, but DeASCM in Linux means not having ADE for Linux is no longer an issue.)

As for Kobos, I like them fine. Just not interested in keeping up with patches.
