Try turning off wifi and reboot the device and see if that helps.
Newer versions of the firmware actually seem pretty rabid about turning off wifi automatically, and it has helped battery life for me.

I’ll give this a try… though it’s already shut off twice and I need to charge it yet again. I presume a shut down due to power loss / charge / power up is different than a “clean” reboot? Wish I could see what processes are running (I presume there’s no way to ssh?).
