The last time I bought a B&N book, I couldn't remove the DRM. Digging showed me there was some file in the ePub that had to be moved from one location to another. But that was a graphic novel (in ePub format though), so I wasn't sure if that were true of all books and if so, how easy that would be to fix in the tool.

As for the key, when I bought my Surface and installed the Nook app from the Windows store, it seemed to work without any fiddling from me.

Not sure if others can confirm my experience. Maybe I was just very lucky?
