I won't argue with your overall concerns. Except to note that assuming all would-be pirates are technically savvy enough to alter code might be a bit of a stretch. Removing that last speed-bump removes all the concerns of a willing (but otherwise incapable) wannabe pirate.

In my opinion, a github repo for the dedrm tools by Apprentice Harper was already a bridge too far in the "too mainstream" direction. Just as the consolidation of all the various tools into One Plugin To Rule Them All was a bit too far in making them too accessible to the masses, IMO. There's valid arguments for these sort of things being better left somewhat arcane and awkward to use (or find). *shrug*
