Firstly, Chrome has nothing to do with this. All the metadata downloads happen through calibre code. It doesn't use the cache.

And if you aren't finding the book using the metadata download, then none of the rest will happen. Is that what has been happening all the time in this thread? Or is it new or just the book?

For no book found during the metadata download, you need to check the sources you are using. Make sure you do have some enabled. And then check the site actually used to see if they actually have the book. The metadata download will use existing identifiers, such as ISBN, but then use the title and author for searches. If there are errors in either of those, or extra information in the title (such as the series name or a subtitle) the likelihood of a match is reduced. And if you are sure everything is correct, post details of some samples for us to see.

There is also a log of the metadata download that can be viewed when it is finished. You can copy that and post that. We can generally see problems, but, not always.
