First, a thank you to David for tweaking my addled brain to a possible solution to my file/book transfer issues . Both the problem and the solution lay with David's comment about issues with a the "modern" computer.

Yes, the micro SD card had some issues and needed replacement, having corrupted a part of the GloHD's operating system. But even after that, transferring more than 4 books at a time using Calibre would result in the Kobo refusing files and locking the file transfer.

Solution? First tried booting in safe mode. No different. Turned off the anti-virus and everything worked perfectly! Guess the AV (Kaspersky in my case) doesn't like the non-Windows file system on the reader's micro SD card.

Thank you again,David. I was ready to throw the Kobo out.
