My contribution to the comparison pictures. I’m comparing two Kobo Sage and a Kindle Oasis.
My take:
- The Kindle Oasis has better lightning, both subjectively in real life and in the pictures. Without natural colour, it looks subjectively whiter in real life and its tint can get stronger. The lightning’s also more even.
- Both Sage have the white patches near the buttons.
- Without natural light and compared to the Kindle, one Sage seems to have a bluish tint, the other a greenish one. Not quite evident in real life.
- With natural light, one Sage veers towards a subtler orangish tint, while the other is more dark yellow and more pronounced. This is quite visible in real life as well and even when not comparing side by side.
- Both Kobos have a slight diagonal shadow at 45° from the corners on the button side, the “yellowish” a bit less visible.
When not compared side-to-side, the difference during usage isn't night and day. My subjective slight preference probably goes towards the “yellowish” Sage, which is the one I’ll keep. Overall, though, the Kindle Oasis has much better lightning; obviously, Kobo hasn’t sorted out this aspect of their readers yet.
