I don't know "why"
But I've
noticed that PDFs created with PrimoPDF are "faster" then ones created with pdfFactory. Unfortunatelly even with PrimoPDF, if PDF file is big, then page-turn time goes up to 6-8 seconds after 500 (or so) pages.
