Can someone please explain, or give a pointer to, what the problem is?

I've missed the last 4 or so years of Kobo hacking. I still have KSM on my old Aura, (haven't updated the Kobo firmware in ages). Now I'm reading that it's no longer recommended. What is the problem besides tshering having new priorities?
