I think I paid like $650 for it but I've tried different Windows Mobile and Palm PDAs and the Socket is the only one that is robust enough never to crash or let me down when I needed an instant drug reference from Epocrates or Sanford Guide, or an algorithm from ER Suite. Kindle info is simply not fast enough for rapid access to such critical information. I know some people are using Epocrates for Iphones and other smart phones, which will some day completely supplant PDAs.

Reading books at leisure (mostly historical and science non-fiction in my case) is much better on the Kindle though! (Previously I read Ereader.com books on my PDA.)
I use my Treo 800w for Epocrates. Being a psychiatrist, the number of times I've had to look up something NOW can be counted on the fingers of my right foot, so I imagine that my texts will be okay on the Kindle. If I had to get answers at the pace of an ER doc, I would not want to be trying to make the Kindle work.
