Well, "if it helps some people then why not", is clearly not reasoned, so it must not have been you.

And yes I do remember writing a post explaining the workarounds I could think of. And the possibility of another way if I considered the demand enough. That included some reasoning as to why I didn't want to do that work. So, I am clearly interested in hearing from people who have an actual problem with upgrading calibre to work out how many people would actually benefit.

What I am not interested in is hearing from people who have absolutely no involvement in the problem. You and @JSWolf do not have the ereaders involved, do not have the issues with calibre and do not have the skills necessary to solve the problem. That means that anything you say about it is wasting everyone's time.
