light as in front light? or display black white flash?
does the power led blink and then stop blinking after a while?
in that case (light only, no black/white or any sign of life from eink screen itself, power led blinks fine) double check the display connector ... cause then it seems the device is booting but the display has no reaction
if you had wifi enabled you can also see if you can ping the kobo from any other device in your network during the boot process. after booting, wifi is only on for a few seconds until disabled for power saving purposes though (unless you used devmode and force wifi on)
make a backup of your sd card or use a new sd card instead of overwriting your original with generic image
