Yep, I will install the pc version of Kindle and use that instead. I assume the books are fairly easy to locate once downloaded? probably in %appdata% at a guess.
I've never tried using the Kindle for PC app, but I know that I've seen multiple threads here, which I haven't read entirely, but my memory is that it can be difficult going that route and using the DeDRM plugin.

What I do is buy the book on Amazon, then go to their web page and click on "Hello Hobnail, Account & Lists" (top right) then click on Content & Devices, and then for each book click More Actions and select Download and transfer via USB. Depending on what the author uploaded it downloads either an AZW3 or a MOBI (container). Which I then drag into calibre and the plugin removes the DRM.
