I think all watches should have a synthetic Sapphire crystal. You can scratch them, but it is very difficult to do so. I have a Tag Heuer that I bought in 1987. It has it's original Sapphire crystal and there isn't a scratch on it. Yes they would increase the cost of a watch, but you save by never having to replace the crystal.
