I disagree with some others. The weight is distributed unevenly. The side with the buttons is significantly heavier. Try to balance the device over the center axis. It won't work.

Whether that affects you ergonomically depends on your individual reading position. In my case, while I don't like the asymmetry, it doesn't bug me too much because usually I have a lot of the weight resting on something else, a pillow, my belly...

A lot of people seem to like the buttons. Personally, I could do without them. But if you think the buttons make sense, then some sort of asymmetry seems to follow (unless you do some weight counterbalancing, as has been suggested. But I don't think that in this case it is effective).
