I actually wish that I could go back to a 7 inch screen because I think it's harder to get a consistently good 8 inch screen and they're more expensive. For me, the improvement from a 7 to 8 inch screen is the same as the degree of to which I prefer the 7 to 6 inch. It's funny because I don't think I'd want a 9 inch screen at all.
I thought I'd prefer an 8 inch screen prior to using one, but it turns out I underestimated how much I'd prefer it.

For me it's a compromise between the screen area and the ergonomics (i.e. I must feel comfortable holding my reader in one hand and not tire too quickly). A 8-incher is at the upper limit, any larger and it would be too big and heavy. Smaller than 7'' would have too small a screen. 7-8'' is the golden mean.
