You want to find out, but you're unwilling to take 10 seconds to determine if the device shut down or not.
Edit: you start troubleshooting with double checking some stupid stuff like whether cables are plugged in. Not because the chance of success is particularly high but because it's quick and effortless. In this case it's just ABSENT INFORMATION.
