Should not need a Kobo cord; any usb cable should work.

Does windows device manager show any unknown usb device?

Have you tried different usb ports on the PC?

If you only have usb 3 ports try connecting a usb 2 hub and using that

Does usbdeview from nirsoft show any Kobo devices?
