I've tried various single routers but I just couldn't get good signal to my bedroom (ironically, down the street was fine).
My bedroom is a Faraday cage so I actually use a wireless mesh with wired ethernet backhaul (TP-Link Deco M9, 3-pack for $200 from Costco like 2-3 years ago). I only use 2 of pucks, one in the living room and one for my bedroom. It's been working well. I get 50MB/s (400Mbps) transferring files locally from wired desktop to iPad.
I also set up an Eero Pro Mesh Wi-Fi 5 system for my aunt's house last year. It uses wireless backhaul since she doesn't want to run wires. Main unit near the kitchen+family room, one near the front door (to connect to 2x Ring outdoor cameras plus 1x Ring doorbell) and another one to cover the second floor. That's been working fine, too. Speedtest via iPhone shows I get 200Mbps (max internet speed) in all locations.
