Reading stats: where are my books going?

This is a "first world" problem. I've owned my Kobo Forma for two to three years now. I'm a bookworm and read about two books a week. The Forma says I have read five books.

Most of my books are sideloaded Epubs (not Kepubs, this only changed recently). When I read an Epub, it is not added to the statistics.

However, I do read Kepubs purchased from Kobo and have recently started using the Kobo Extended plugin to convert sideloaded Epubs to Kepubs.

Recently I finished a Kobo-purchased Kepub, raising my number of completed books to five. Then I read a sideloaded Kepub, raising my number to six. Then I deleted the sideloaded book, reducing my number to five. Um... is there a way around this?
