It's when I read complications like those listed by the OP and others that I'm pleased I made the decision when I bought my first kobo ereader that I wouldn't ever let it access the internet post the set up. What a headache for all concerned to have stuff just as you like and then whammo it's gone.
I can understand why you do connect and use overdrive etc from your ereader, but what a lottery.
I'm guessing it's not as easy as say doing a backup of what you have on your ereader and restoring that either, it's more complex because of the Kobo overlay.
